Mrs. Karen Hanssens Wieczorek, along with Mr. Klocek, teaches gifted students at the Upper Moreland Middle School. She has been teaching in Upper Moreland since 1992, and she has earned degrees and certificates from KutztownUniversity, LaSalle University, and Chestnut Hill College. Mrs. Hanssens loves children of all ages and always knew from the time she was little that teaching would be her lifelong career. She has taught kindergarteners all the way up to high school seniors, and this experience has greatly impacted her teaching methods as well as her philosophy about learning.

For the last seven years, Mrs. Hanssens has taught LEAP6 and Technotics at the Middle School. These gifted education courses enable students to explore individual interests as well as master challenging new skills and concepts. In the classroom, Mrs. Hanssens’s goal is to find the “just right” level of challenge for each of her students. Ascertaining that appropriate level of challenge is a team effort between Mrs. Hanssens, her students, and her students’ parents. All students need the ability to communicate effectively with their teachers, and Mrs. Hanssens strongly encourages all students and parents to share both success and struggles with her as the school year progresses. Nothing offends Mrs. Hanssens and she has broad shoulders when listening to parents and students. She has the attitude that "we are all in this together." Mrs. Hanssens considers it her honor and privilege to teach gifted students in Upper Moreland, and she is looking forward to another successful year at the Middle School.

Personally, Mrs. Hanssens is married to Ken Wieczorek and is very busy at home with four young, energetic boys ages 10, 8, 4, and 3 years old.. She loves to read and travel, but doesn't have as much time for those activities as she would like. Most of her time at home these days is joyfully spent playing Legos, doing puzzles, and running around in the backyard playing ball!
